Ethos and Values 2017-03-18T23:36:39+00:00

The school’s logo has always incorporated “Growing Together” and this is central to everything we aspire at Abbey Meadows.
Our ethos is based upon the partnership between home and school and the importance of establishing a positive teaching and learning environment. We are aware that education does not only take place in the classroom and are keen that parents and carers should take an active part in their children’s education. We encourage regular dialogue between home and school and we are keen that families are involved in school life.
We strive to create an environment where children and adults are happy, confident and safe and many visitors comment on the calm, friendly atmosphere when they visit the school. It is our aim that every member of the school community is treated with respect and that each person is treated fairly and well. We encourage and reinforce good behaviour and work to ensure that everyone implements rules fairly and consistently. Whilst recognising that good behaviour is important we also encourage everyone to develop good learning behaviours. This is done within a school ethos of hard work, care, commitment and responsibility and on the basic principles of honesty, respect, consideration and responsibility.
British Values
The Department of Education has reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”
The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and in June 2014, reiterated the role that British values play in education. The Prevent Strategy defines fundamental British values as “democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs”.   You can read how Abbey Meadows reinforces these values here

If you have any worries or concerns about your child please do not hesitate to contact the school. It is much better to deal with issues sooner rather than later and we find that most problems can be resolved very quickly when we work together.
